FB brings new feature to let users find info about places

BANGALORE, INDIA: Facebook has launched a new feature ' Place Tips' for the iPhone users.

"From friends’ recommendations to information about the places and things that interest you, Facebook helps you connect with the world around you. To better show you this content at just the right place and time, today we’re launching a new feature called place tips. Place tips will show you fun, useful and relevant info about the place you’re at. Tapping on place tips won’t post on Facebook or show anyone where you are," said the company's official blog post.

So when you are at a new place, this feature helps you learn more about the place without revealing to your FB friends where you are. When you tap on place tips, you’ll see a series of cards with info about the place you’re at. If you choose to view place tips, you’ll find things like posts and photos your friends have shared with you about that place.

You can turn place tips off or on at any time in your settings or just hide tips about specific places. Place tips only appear if you’ve given Facebook permission to access your location on your phone.

The post also expains on how the feature works. "Your location is determined using cellular networks, Wi-Fi and GPS. In the coming weeks, we’ll be testing place tips using these signals in places like Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, Times Square, the Statue of Liberty and JFK Airport."
