MUMBAI:  Brocade announced new capabilities that dramatically improve the backup and recovery of critical data in mainframe environments. The new solutions are available immediately from Brocade Partners IBM and Sun Microsystems, and utilize tape pipelining technology to accelerate read/write performance for FICON-based tape libraries over a Wide Area Network (WAN). These features enable faster backup of data to remote locations.

The new Brocade FICON tape pipelining technology is now available on the Brocade USD-X and Brocade M3000 distance extension products. The new feature facilitates the replication of data to the IBM VTS and Peer-to-Peer VTS and the Sun StorageTek Virtual Storage Manager 5 (VSM5), which are virtual tape solutions for large-scale mainframe data protection infrastructures.

The new capabilities are believed to enable improvements in data throughput of up to 200 percent and in overall backup and recovery performance by as much as 70 percent.

"High-performance tape vaulting over distance allows customers to extend the affordability and reliability of tape to provide a robust and affordable business continuity solution for today's large global companies," said Tom Buiocchi, Brocade VP of Worldwide Marketing.
