Chandrasekaran confirmed the jump in a Facebook post, "Going native and reconnecting with the country you grew up in is something I didn’t imagine I would get to do, let alone witnessing the entrepreneurial journey that is driving India forward," he wrote.

In the past, Chandrasekaran has worked in the capacity of chief product officer at Snapdeal, where he was behind the revamped version of its website and app, as well as the integration of Freecharge – the mobile payments firm Snapdeal had acquired in April 2015. He was also the chief product officer at Bharti Airtel and is credited with launching its Wynk music app and Airtel Money.

Chandrasekaran, 38, co-founded Aeroprise, a personalized mobile applications software company that was acquired by BMC Software Inc. in 2011.

The technology executive has also become a prolific angel investor and has invested between $25,000 and $50,000 in around 15 start-ups including food technology firm InnerChef, healthcare company Pluss and dating platform Aisle.
