NEW DELHI, INDIA: F5 Networks Inc, application delivery networking company, has launched its BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM), delivering intelligent traffic management for multimedia services.

F5’s BIG-IP product performs application-layer switching for SIP, RTSP, and SCTP to provide scalability and high availability. It can also provide intelligent traffic management for service providers’ migration from circuit-switched to packet-switched networks, F5 Networks has said in a release.

F5’s modular TMOS platform, with its iRules customization capabilities and high-performance proxy, enables BIG-IP LTM to act as a translator to solve interoperability challenges and application issues in IMS networks.

F5’s iRules technology enables SIP, RTSP, and SCTP to be inspected, transformed, and redirected with complete flexibility, helping to bridge interoperability challenges and solve application issues.

The new BIG-IP local traffic manager provides for an improved availability of multimedia applications, complete flexibility for multimedia application delivery, enhance IMS infrastructure security, quality of service for multimedia applications and offers carrier-class hardware.

The multimedia protocol support is available with a software upgrade to 9.4.2 on the 1500, 3400, 6400, 6800, 8400, and 8800 platforms. No additional license is needed. BIG-IP LTM 9.4.2 will be available in October 2007.
