Exabyte launches storage soln with FireWire 800

BANGALORE: Exabyte Corporation, provider of tape backup systems, has

announced the release of the VXA-2 PacketLoader 1x10 1U with FireWire 800 - a

tape autoloader that features FireWire 800 connectivity in a 1U form factor.

The company claims that this autoloader is a breakthrough storage solution

for Mac users since it provides two weeks of unattended backup up to 1.6 TB of

capacity in ten 160 GB cartridges and includes a rack mount kit, cables, backup

software and a cleaning tape. According to the company release, with its

FireWire 800 connectivity, its capacity and its pricing, the VXA-2 PacketLoader

1x10 1U makes it possible for Mac users to upgrade from single tape drives to a

cost-effective and reliable VXA-2 automated backup solution.

The release further states that the Apple Xserve and VXA-2 PacketLoader are

perfect complements that provide a complete storage solution for Mac users with

intensive data storage needs. By simply connecting one FireWire 800 cable from

the back of the Xserve to the back of the VXA-2 PacketLoader, Mac users achieve

an instant backup solution for their Xserve that provides flawless, automated

backup and restore for their data.
