NEW DELHI: eSys has announced the importing of its Intel based Celeron 1.7 eSys PCs from Singapore, where the company is headquartered. Currently, the model being imported is an Intel based Celeron 1.7 machine priced at Rs 13,999 and is targeted towards the entry-level segment. The company also plans to import its higher-end models at a later stage. eSys uses the Linux platform for its PCs.

According to the press release, the move takes full advantage of the cost reductions post the budget , which has made imports of ready-to-use PCs cheaper than those assembled locally in India. Through its import strategy, eSys plans to pass on this cost reduction to the consumer, in line with it's larger objective of making PCs affordable to a larger segment of the population.

Said eSys international operation director, Neeraj Chauhan, "In keeping with our overall objective of driving PC penetration in the Indian marketplace, our decision to import helps us to provide customers an unbeatable value proposition. With an excellent distribution network in place, we see ourselves as one of the catalysts to drive that penetration".
