NEW DELHI: Ericsson has announced the roll out of one million broadband lines in India. Ericsson Indian MD Mats Granryd said, “We have rolled out more than one million broadband lines out of the total 2.5 million lines rolled out in India till now. Going forward, we expect broadband to pick up speed in India and triple play — voice, data and video - to become popular overtime.”

Since the beginning of last year, there has been a 17-fold increase in broadband subscribers, as per estimates of the Telecom regulator TRAI. Claiming a market share of about 40 per cent in the broadband infrastructure in the country, Granryd said that company is extremely bullish in the broadband segment and is gearing up to meet the demand. Ericsson has received an order of additional 175,000 lines from MTNL. This is in addition to the original order of 3,50,000 lines.

The company currently has an employee base of 1,500 and has been investing $100million per annum. The company plans to continue investing the same amount in the Indian market every year as long as it gets a good return on investment.
