CHENNAI: Swedish Telecom major Ericsson is working on IPTV as well as researching on enriched communication solutions.

Talking to CyberMedia News on the sidelines of the Ericsson India�s R&D centre launch in Chennai, Gunnar Heldebro, vice president and general manager of Ericsson, said that the company is now hugely investing in IPTV.

�Though only telecom service providers were our major clients, with the advent of convergence, many new players such as Microsoft, we are now also in the getting into the business of communications,� he said.

Heldebro said that the main focus has shifted from pure telecom for the company, which is now adopting the outside-in strategy and that is to develop applications from the end-users perspective.

�On the same lines, we are researching on communication suite, especially in the enriched communication solutions segment, which includes integrating Instant Messengers (IMs) and other content-driven platforms. We would also be involved in business communication solutions and charging solutions, as part of our R&D effort,� Heldebro informed.

The Ericsson official said that the company would soon be rolling out Napster Mobile applications for the global telecom market.
