Equifax appoints former GE exec Mark Begor as its new CEO

Equifax announced former General Electric executive Mark Begor as the company's new CEO. The hire comes six months after Equifax’s former CEO Richard Smith resigned and left Paulino do Rego Barros, Jr. leading in the interim.

"I will prioritize continuing our team's efforts to communicate transparently and restore confidence to consumers, customers, shareholders and policymakers," Begor said in a statement.

Begor most recently served as a managing director at Warburg Pincus, a US-based private equity firm. Prior to that, he spent 35 years at General Electric in a variety of positions, including as president and CEO of GE Energy Management. Begor's appointment at Equifax is effective on April 16. He will also become a board member.

Begor comes aboard as the company attempts to build back public trust or at least stay out of the news long enough for people to forget about the hack. The company's image has taken a hit since the admission of a massive breach which had released the personal data of over 140 million customers.

Paulino do Rego Barros Jr. will retire from Equifax early next year and will assist Begor during the transition process.
