BANGALORE: Enterprise networking solution provider, Enterasys Networks will be hitting the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) market in India by releasing a product, appointing network security specific distributors and channel partners and trying to grab a major portion of the market share.

After gaining the leadership status worldwide in the IDS over the past one-year, Enterasys Networks in India plans to do an encore within the next 12 months. Enterasys has been listed as a `Leader’ in Gartner’s Intrusion Detection System magic quadrant for the first half year of 2002, along with Cisco and Internet Security System.

"There is no particular market study for the IDS market in India. But we are aware that the market is brimming with opportunities and we want to grab the pie as early as possible. A possible 15 to 20 percent of the market share within the next one year," said Enterasys Networks, Country Manager-India and SAARC region, Uday Birje.

According to Voice&Data (V&D 100-July 2002), the network security market is pegged at Rs 150 crore for the financial year 2001-02. Unfortunately there is no growth projection for this market and IDS is part of the network security market.

As part of its foray into network security market in India, Enterasys, is in the process of releasing its latest IDS product, Dragon 6.0. The product will be the preceding version of Dragon 5.2, released earlier. In line with its SAM (Security, Availability and Mobility) strategy to hit the market, the company plans to appoint distributors and channel partners, specifically for security.

"We preferably want these set of partners to be focussing on security solutions alone. This would give us the reach and focus that we require in the market," remarked Birje.

Enterasys, focussing on enterprises, has partnered with system integrators to provide total networking solutions for its customers. Some of its partners are CMC, CMS, L&T, Wipro (Professional Services group) Tata Elxsi, Paladion Networks, Ramco Systems, HCL Infosystems, and QI Networks.

Under its SAM strategy, Enterasys offers products such as switches, switch routers, WAN routers, network management software, VPN and Wireless LAN. These products are combined with firewalls from Nokia, and convergence gateways from Siemens form the complete solution to the enterprise.
