BANGALORE: Emerson Network Power India, erstwhile Tata Liebert, plans to
introduce entry level UPS starting from 3 KVA and upwards for the SMEs and SOHO.
They will be in the line interactive micro, online micro and off line micro
segment. The products for the range will be imported from China, where the
company had recently acquired a UPS manufacturing unit called Avansys.
Emerson in India is the only standing company of the $15.5 billion Emerson
group of the US. It had formed the new company after buying over 50 per cent
stake of Tata and Sons from the UPS company, Tata Liebert, for a value of Rs
76.5 crore. The company plans to capture the micro level UPS market within the
next couple of years.
"According to a Frost and Sullivan study, we have 30 plus per cent
market share in the online mini, medium and high end segment, and are a clear
leader with a 27.6 per cent market share in the online UPS market. We are
lagging behind in the online micro and line interactive micro market with less
than 10 per cent market share. With the acquisition of Avansys, we have the
product strength to increase our market share here, said Emerson’s managing
director, Anand Ekbote.
Frost and Sullivan, according to Emerson officials, has pegged the UPS
industry in 2000 at Rs 637.44 crore. Out of this, the line interactive micro
units contribute 28 per cent of the total revenue and that’s the reason
Emerson wants to grab a lion’s share of the market pie. Currently, they have
just four per cent market share of that segment.
The company has a manufacturing unit in Thane, Mumbai, rolling out its
products. It plans to add DC Power Supply, Asco Power transfer switches and
search protection systems rolling out from its manufacturing unit. It plans to
increase its manufacturing unit space from the present 20,000 sq ft to 38,000 sq
ft. It has 18 offices in the country coordinating with 500 resellers and 40
franchisee service partners. It also works along with 40 business partners in
India.
Ekbote added, "Setting up a separate company in India is the first step
towards a major reorganization within the group. In 43 years of existence, it’s
probably the only company to have a Quarter-on-Quarter growth in revenue. It’s
a group comprising 80 companies and was recently reconstituted into eight
competency areas. Network Power being one of the competency areas and being
present as a market leader in India prompted us to start off as a separate
entity."
With quality power needed for business critical applications, Emerson is all
set to reinstate leadership in all segments of the UPS market.
