The company's push for automation is a bid to handle crisis, reduce instances of technology related outages and improve recovery of lost data. EMC believes automation will allow for a more efficient handling of these issues as compared to their handling by humans.

Peter Lacoste, EMC's VP of Global Managed Services, said that with increased usage of technology coupled with higher volumes of data, companies are looking to reduce instances of data backup failure or tech outages, which may impact e-commerce or online payments.

"A great example is a self-healing solution in the backup space where backup job failure identification and restarts are leveraged to drastically reduce the principle volume of backup incidents."
