In addition, EMC announced enhancements to its flagship backup and recovery software -- EMC Legato NetWorker -- and new software for backup reporting and analysis -- EMC Backup Advisor.

The software would be available in India later this quarter.

Speaking about the new launch, director of product marketing with EMC Software, PK Gupta said, “RecoverPoint provides continuous data protection instead of snapshot backup and can backup data in as low as 30 seconds to ensure zero data loss. The new release of NetWorker -- version 7.3 features increased backup flexibility, including enhanced retention policies and target sharing. It also has enhanced security features -- like 256-bit AES encryption, enhanced authentication and network address translation firewall support. It also includes a new graphical user interface (GUI) for Windows.”

He added, “EMC Backup Advisor gathers information from the entire backup infrastructure (backup software, tape drives, etc.) and presents it in the form of figures, graphs, etc., thereby making it easier for the user to understand the backup process. It also helps customers identify and rectify backup process and operational problems.”

According to Gupta, while NetWorker version 7.3 is targeted at SMBs, the other two are targeted at medium and large enterprises. The pricing of the software is based on the number of servers to be backed up.
