The iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris will be at the mercy of social media users next month. Relax, we are just talking about the colours the tower will be adorned with. Remember the "Shakti" during navratris and the colours of Indian flag on independence day. The power of these colour changing techniques will now be with you!

French carrier Orange, the official sponsors of the Euro 2016 soccer tournament, will kick off a campaign next month, where the colour of the tower will be chosen based on the number of tweets, Facebook posts and Instagram posts that fans of each team post on a match day.

For instance, on the day of a match between France and England, if fans of The French team show the maximum support on social media, with hashtags recommended by Uefa, then the tower will be draped in the colours of the French flag, until midnight. The social media posts will be tallied from one minute past midnight on match day until 9:30 pm that evening.

Orange also plans to project the most creative social posts on the tower itself. The soccer tournament will start on June 10 and will run for a month until July 10.

If the social media posts during the 2014 World Cup is anything to go by, this year is expected to be a blitzkrieg. Over 670 million tweets were generated over the course of the 2014 tournament, which is about six times more than the volume of tweets generated during Olympics, according to data shared by Twitter.
