BANGALORE, INDIA: Sybase India, a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure and mobility solutions has announced the launch of two major solutions for the regional enterprise sector, the new PowerBuilder 11 for .NET and PowerDesigner 12.5. The new version of PowerBuilder for .Net will enable fast and easy deployment of data-driven applications and the PowerDesigner 12.5 will help enterprises build or re-engineer business applications quickly, cost-effectively and consistently.

Talking to CIOL, Dave Fish, Technical Evanelist Development Tools at Sybase said, ``Sybase has launched our new solutions - PowerBuilder 11 for .NET and PowerDesigner 12.5 for the Indian market. PowerBuilder is Sybase's biggest products and we have an aggressive growth strategy for these products in India. With this, we will increase our customer base in India as well.’’

Sources indicate that presently Sybase has a customer base of 350 enterprise customers in India and is growing at about 180 percent annually to touch 500 by 2010.

Sybase, over the years, has transformed PowerBuilder remarkably. While PowerBuilder 8 was notable for adding web application development, PowerBuilder 9 added an EJB client, support for Java Server Pages (JSP), the PowerBuilder native interface (PBNI) and initial XML and web services support. PowerBuilder 10.0, on the other hand, added an array of important infrastructural additions including Unicode, object modeling, an XML DataWindow, UDDI support, as well as mobile client support.

Now, Sybase PowerBuilder 11 goes one step further in transforming itself into a premier 4GL rapid application development (RAD) tool. Building on its strength of quickly developing data-driven applications necessary to critical business functions, PowerBuilder 11 provides developers with the simplest, easiest and most cost-effective way to deploy applications on the .NET platform.

“PowerBuilder 11 continues to support integration with J2EE environments and Win32 applications. Integration with the leading development platforms provides a more open, flexible environment for developers with heterogeneous platform requirements,” adds Fish. “PowerBuilder also offers increased productivity as it enables less complex coding and shorter development cycles than applications built with 3GL level tools.''

Fish says that after the leaders Microsoft's Virtual Studio and Eclipse, Sybase's PowerBuilder now occupies the third position along with Delphi from Borland in this space. Sybase’s PowerDesigner 12.5, an all-in-one modeling and design solution. The solution is meant for enterprises that need to build or re-engineer business applications quickly, cost-effectively and consistently. Supporting more than 60 databases and leading development environments including Sybase Workspace, Sybase PowerBuilder, Java, the Eclipse open source development environment, and Microsoft Visual Studio, Sybase PowerDesigner combines business process modeling with unified modeling language (UML) and data modeling to make possible open, cross-platform information architectures that securely deliver information anytime, anywhere.

Regarding Sybase setting up a development centre for PowerBuilder in India, John Strano, Senior System Consultant Solutions & OEM Engineering at Sybase said, ``Sybase has a R&D facility in Pune with about 250 engineers into servers and ASE, but have no plans to set up a development center for PowerBuilder in India. Presently, the development is done at Singapore, Beijing and Concord in Massachusetts.
