DoT clarifies stand on CAG controversy

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Even as the controversy over UAS licences is heating up, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) today said that the news report about Union Telecom Minister A.Raja of causing a loss of over Rs 26,000 crore to the government is misleading and incorrect.

In a statement, DoT said the so-called report which is mentioned in some media reports is not the CAG report and is merely an inspection memo issued by the P&T Audit Wing of CAG.

The potential loss arrived at and the administrative decision referred to in the memo have been made on the basis of the views inferred by P&T Audit Wing of C&AG, it clarified.

The factual and the legal position of the Department on the decisions taken on the issuance of UAS licences and spectrum allotment have been duly apprised to the Audit in a detailed written reply sent by DoT today, and other related issues raised by the Audit have also been clarified, the statement said.

Earlier, Raja had said that the CAG queries are under scrutiny with DoT and it would res;pond to the queries.
