What many don't know is that Leonardo DiCaprio is also a low-key businessman. As documented on crunchbase he has invested in everything from a garbage company to an Amazonian tea purveyor and the popular mattress startup Casper. As per latest reports, he is investing in Qloo, a startup that calls itself a “cultural recommendations engine.”

So, we know it sounds a bit weird and interesting and weird. So this is how it is supposed to work, Qloo says it has “mapped the taste genome” by combing through massive amounts of data. Based on which it spits out answers to burning questions from brands and advertisers about the preferences of their target audiences when it comes to things like food, music and TV.

If we explain it with an example, as TechCrunch reports, Qloo can tell you the favorite music artists of fans of the Golden State Warriors vs. fans of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Which, believe it or not, is no small thing! It will help advertisers ensure they’re marketing the right things to both groups, collectively or separately, based on what they do and don’t share. So, for example, Warriors fans like Drake and Cavs fans like Li’l Wayne, but both groups like pizza and SportsCenter.

DiCaprio participated in the Series A round, which raised $4.5 million for the company.

It definitely seems like DiCaprio has highly eclectic taste in investments. But, only time will tell if this endeavor will reap the same kinds of rewards he’s been bringing in with his work on the big screen.

Hope, he does not have to wait too long like the Oscars for this one.
