He spoke about how the changing world is affecting the customers, suppliers and IT marketers.

Talking about customers, he said that in the current scenario, be it in real-time airline booking or in a casino, the main intent is to retain a customer.

India has passed the transition stage. Now we are talking about customer management in the individual level to be in this competitive world.

One has to drive competitive advantage through continuous innovation. One has to be close to the customer, develop application and understand the domain of the customer.

Level of understanding is very important to reach real-time data process operations, said Gupta.

Speaking about opportunities for the growth, he said that there would be a shift from the traditional market i.e, North America, western Europe to emerging markets in Asia Pacific, CEMEA and Latin America.

Be it Internet usage, IT spending, Web 2.0, cell phone users, emerging markets are going to have a larger share of the ratio when compared to the traditional markets.

“Most effective way in moving toward this shift will happen through Internet. Sixty per cent of the Internet users are from the emerging markets,” Gupta added.

“In the long-term exploitation cycle there is always recession resistance and we have seen this earlier. The main challenge for the vendors is focus on disruption, open innovation, redefining relation with customer, face strange competition and focus on real time customer insight,” he said.

Cort Isernhagen, vice president, IDC Asia Pacific, addressing a session on Enterprise IT in the “Post Disruption” Era said that recession has very little impact on the APJ market.

In the context of disruption he highlighted the necessity on the part of organizations to redefine the new basics for enterprise IT, CIOs and the speed in IT linkage to business value and being cost effective.
