Dell launches Streak in India at Rs. 34,990

BANGALORE, INDIA: With a view to cash in on the anticipated 3G revolution in India, major players are stepping into the ground with small screen devices.

On Tuesday, Dell announced the launch of Dell Streak in India. It is a 5-inch Android-based tablet combining features of a smartphone and a tablet and designed to provide people the best 'on-the-go' entertainment, social connection, and navigation experience.

In this initiative, Dell joined forces with Qualcomm and Tata DOCOMO. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8250 mobile processor, the Dell Streak will use Tata DOCOMO network. For Qualcomm, this is for the first time its Snapdragon processor being used in a tablet.

The device is a compact and powerful companion for people who not only want to stay connected but also expand their ability to access their digital lives on the go. The 5-inch screen is ideal for experiencing thousands of Android Market widgets. Built-in 3G HSUPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity makes multitasking effortless and enables easy access for downloading and listening to music, updating social networking status in real-time, and staying connected to friends and family through e-mail, text, IM, and voice calls all at the same time.

The Dell Streak leverages Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon mobile processor to combine advanced functionality, performance, and benefits of a laptop in a pocket friendly size.

“Dell Streak hits the sweet spot between traditional smartphones and larger-screen tablets. The smartphone facility distinguishes Streak from other tablets. Since the device is Android-based, there are possibilities that lots of applications pertaining to industries like healthcare can be built on top of it.” said Mahesh Bhalla, executive director and general manager, Consumer, Dell India, after unveiling Streak here today.

He added that India was a large market and that the company saw the tablet as a very promising gadget as far as India market is concerned.

Priced at Rs. 34,990, Dell Streak can be experienced and will be available for pre-booking at all Dell Exclusive stores, Tata DOCOMO ‘Dive In’ centers and authorized retailers. Dell Streak users will also get 500 MB of data usage free every month for a period of six months on Tata DOCOMO postpaid connections.
