Delhi gang-rape: Police apologize to protesters on Twitter

MUMBAI, INDIA: After facing a nation-wide criticism for using force against the student protesters at Delhi Gate in the capital, Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar has posted an apology message on the micro blogging site twitter.

"We sincerely regret if any innocent protester was hurt or lathi-charged and apologize," Delhi Police (@delhipolice2) tweeted.

Moreover, the Delhi Police chief shared the sad news of demise of constable Subhash Chand Tomar, who succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning after he was severely injured during the scuffle with the protesters.

"With deep regret we have to inform you Ct Subhash Chand Tomar succumbed to his injuries at 6.40AM today," said @delhipolice2.

However, the apology tweet hasn't been accepted well as many twitterati have asked pointed questions to the Delhi Police chief.

"Would you compensate them for their injuries? Some of them may have been disabled because of police brutality," asked @Satyabhasham.

"Will you withdraw the charges of rioting slapped on all the protesters including VK Singh? Please don't harass them," questioned @ShivAroor.

Another Twitter user @Indian_ITman asked, "Will you be able too take the pain return from those innocent women-girls whom u hit brutally?"

The twit responses from users have been quite harsh and demand more information and transparency from the Delhi Police as well as the government.

"So will you be charging any officers for charging the innocent protesters you just alluded to? Or is this more lip service?" a twitter user @Tactical_Intel lashed out his anger against the Delhi Police.
