NEW DELHI, INDIA: The Delhi High Court dismissed on Thursday a plea demanding stay on 3G spectrum (radio waves) auction alleging that the Department of Telecom (DoT) was favouring certain operators. The auction is set to begin on Friday. Top telecom firms such as Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications are bidding for airwaves in all 22 service areas.

A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice Mukta Gupta dismissed the petition saying: "The contention of the petitioner is misconceived."

The court's direction came over a petition filed by the Society for Awareness and Development, a non-government organisation (NGO), contending that DoT's February 25 notice inviting applications was tilted in favour of the big 3G operators.
