D-link India is now Smartlink

BANGALORE, INDIA: Network solutions provider D-link India has finally completed the process of de-merger and now part of the company will be called Smartlink Network Systems Ltd from D-Link(India) Ltd. The company revealed the information in a BSE announcement.

The notification said, the name of the Company has been changed to "SMARTLINK NETWORK SYSTEMS LIMITED" from "D-LINK (INDIA) LIMITED" consequent to fresh Certificate of Incorporation issued by the Registrar of Companies, Goa. The above change of name is the part of the implementation of the Scheme of Arrangement which has become effective on June 10, 2009.

Speaking to CIOL, Jayesh Kotak, VP - Product Management, D-link India said the de-merger of the active and passive networking businesses of D-link is now over.

“The active networking business will continue as D-link India with its headquarters D- Link Corporation in Taiwan, while the passive networking business (which was actually a joint venture) of cabling and R&D will now be called by Smartlink Networks, dealing with D-link brand.”

Last year, in the month of October, D-Link had announced to consolidate the businesses related to structured cabling systems, R&D, manufacturing and service operations as Smartlink Network Systems. And retain the name of the company for the unit related to the sales and marketing of D-Link’s products.

D-link had a similar joint venture with motherboard vendor –Gigabyte. In year 2005, it tied-up with Gigabyte Technology (India) Ltd – with equity participation from both D-Link (India) Ltd and Gigabyte Technology Co Ltd.
