INDIA: Asia MotorWorks Ltd. (AMW), a heavy commercial vehicle manufacturer has selected IBM’s hardware platform to consolidate complete server hardware infrastructure for its new Datacenter. The consolidation of four servers onto a single IBM BladeCenter S & HS22 blade server would reduce total cost of ownership by almost 18 to 20 per cent compared to the traditional rack servers based solution.

AMW required four disparate servers across vendors for internal infrastructure applications and they were keen on consolidating these servers to improve business efficiency, reduce space and enhance energy efficiency, all this while boosting overall IT performance.

IBM secured the deal after demonstrating the value proposition on total cost of operation, clear strategy and risk management capabilities, technical capabilities, and an assured roadmap for scalability. The solution ensures server consolidation with lowered TCO, power consumption, rack space and cooling savings with a complete redundant architecture with the BladeCentre S solution.

The IBM solution helps simplify the client's environment without sacrificing performance or availability and improves service time to AMW customers, as a press release adds.

“Asia MotorWorks recognized and realized that they needed to build a robust infrastructure to address their current and future expansion plans. IBM Blade solution has allowed us to take a leap towards a high performance infrastructure. The advantages are good in terms of ROI, performance and manageability. This is the first time we were evaluating the Blade Center technology and I’m not sure we would have made the commitment to go ahead with this decision if it wasn’t for the fact that a company like IBM was behind it,’ said — Umesh Mehta, Vice President- I.T. (CIO), Asia MotorWorks.
