CSI to make knowledge portal disabled friendly

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Computer Society of India will make its knowledge portal accessible for disabled in the third quarter of this calendar year.

“This portal aims to connect IT professional across geographies, especially targeted to connect Indians overseas with their counterparts in India,” said Ravi Raman, vice chairman, Mumbai chapter, CSI on the launch of this knowledge portal, which is part of CSI’s roadmap for the Professional Development Ecosystem for IT professionals launched today.

“Through this portal CSI members will be able to share information, solve problems, write blogs and network with IT professionals. We will make it even accessible for disabled in the third quarter of this calendar year,” he added.

The knowledge portal was inaugurated by Sachin Pilot, Minister of State for IT and Communications.

Lauding the initiative Pilot said it would help in accessing quality knowledge among professionals.

“There are going to be 100 thousand new jobs from IT sector in the next financial year. This was a long-awaited initiative which has fruition today. It is laudable initiative by CSI as it will help in accessing quality knowledge among professionals across the country,” said Pilot.

CSI has close to 40,000 IT professional as its members, out of which 15,000 are students. The association has developed knowledge portal as value-added service to its members. Besides this, the portal aims to tune knowledge of aspiring IT professionals as per industry requirement.

“The IT sector is playing a predominant role in driving economic growth. It is imperative to raise professional standards to meet this growth. The roadmap would be a key driver of individual excellence and talent development in Indian IT’s future growth charter and the government’s vision of better governance,” said S. Mahalingam, President, CSI

Enlarge the pool of employable IT professionals through focused industry-driven training programmes

Build international alliances to drive talent exchange programmes

Use the power of IT to build local language interfaces and connect with and reach rural citizens

Assist Government through IT System for better Governance

Expand the domestic use of IT in business

Facilitate and promote research and development to drive larger societal impact

CSI plans to add new features in this portal every quarter of a calendar year. Release of next version of this portal is due on March 31, 2010.

This portal will be hosted and managed by Zenith Computer on cloud computing platform.
