PUNE: Referring to the recent torrential rain and floods in Mumbai and other parts of Maharastra, Sudhir Trehan, chairman of CII (Western Region), reiterated the urgent need to beef up disaster management infrastructure.

“Unprecedented fury of the nature notwithstanding, we must accept the reality that the city was totally unprepared to meet such calamities,” he said. Disaster management teams comprising municipal officials, police, state government and private citizens with alternate plans are required to meet with any eventualities. “The structure of this team should be such that it should be able to swing into full action at the shortest notice,” he added. The extent of loss of business, industrial production and loss of property is yet to be accessed. It will take a few more days to know the correct figures. Trehan said that the CII would extend all help to the State to overcome the setback.
