Adoption of Security Standards Worldwide and in India

The website http://www.iso27001certificates.com maintains a register of organizations having obtained certification to the ISMS security standard.

This Register has been produced in cooperation with an international network of Certification Bodies and is managed and maintained by the ISMS International User Group (IUG) and is updated on a regular basis in co-operation with the Certification Bodies.

The entries in this Register have been supplied by those Certification Bodies, that have carried out the ISMS (ISO/IEC 27001:2005 and previously BS 7799 Part 2:2002) certification.

As of August 2006, 2853 organizations have been certified to BS7799 / ISO 27001 standard. Japan has registered 1730 certificates till date, followed by UK with 262 certificates, and India with 201 certificates. The United States follows at no. 7 with 42 certificates. (In Japan, privacy legislation requires that security controls are verified by a third party, which is why ISO 27001 certification is popular).
