BANGALORE: Motorola Inc. has decided to integrate two of its centers in Bangalore of its Global Software Group (GSG), under one single roof. An investment of $13 million is to be spent on the facility, expected to be ready for occupation by January 2004.

Motorola Global Software Group, Senior Vice President and GM, Terrence Heng, said, "Motorola prides itself on innovation which is a result of its astute focus on R&D. We were among the first telecom companies to realize India’s software potential and invest in establishing a development center here. Today, the India development center is an integral part of GSG operations and is developing cutting edge solutions in software and applications for Motorola products and on future technologies such as 2.5/3G mobile handsets, and networks, consumer electronics and others".

The new R&D center will continue to provide Indian developers the opportunity to work on future technologies," said Motorola Global Software Group, VP and GM Asia Pacific, Mohan Kumar.

Motorola currently has two development centres in Bangalore and one in Hyderabad. The centers produce software for Motorola’s Infrastructure, subscriber and semiconductor products. Currently the centers are involved with development of software solutions for CDMA-1X products, in addition to the entire range of 2G, 2.5G and 3G phones.

Motorola India Electronics Limited (MIEL), the electronics division of Motorola, is engaged in the development of wireless applications for both infrastructure subscriber sectors. In addition to Bluetooth and WAP, MIEL is working in such areas as WLAN, Multimedia messaging, Cable Modems and security.
