BANGALORE: After Delhi and Chennai, the Indian Railways has launched its online reservation facility in Bangalore. The online web based e-commerce facility has been developed jointly by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd. (IRCTC) and by Broad Vision, a US based company. Now the passengers can make online reservations by accessing the website www.irctc.co.in
This facility is targeted at the credit card users, as payment for the train tickets would be through credit cards only. The delivery of tickets in Bangalore would be through courier and the railways have tied up with DHL couriers to streamline the system. The railway has a ticket collection center for the delivery of online tickets at Delhi and it plans to extend this facility to Chennai and Bangalore shortly.
To avail this facility the passengers would have to shell out Rs 30 for second class reservation and Rs 50 for upper class reservation tickets. While making this announcement V Shriram, Group General Manager, IRCTC said that the users would have to register on the website to avail the online reservation facility.
He informed that since the launch of this facility in Delhi and Chennai there were around 4,000 registered users who were using this facility. The facility was launched on August 8, 2002 in Delhi and on September 9, 2002 in Chennai. He also said the online reservation facility would be available to the passengers only during the normal reservation counter timings. He informed that the railways has plans to extend this facility in other cities like Mumbai and Kolkata in the near future.
