BANGALORE: Another Indian at the helm of developing innovative technologies. In a reversal of roles, a Texas Instruments employee has won the Innovator of the Year Award, for 2000-2001, from EDN Asia. Earlier, Indranil Majumdar, an Indian technology enthusiast, had won the Texas Instruments Worldwide award for Analog Design Challenge for his Railway Collision Avoidance System design.
Bangalore-based E. Prakash was selected by EDN Asia readers, who voted to acknowledge his "completely original" work. EDN Asia is a design magazine in Asia-Pacific region and belongs to EDN's global information network. Its readership is about 28,300. The magazine features editorial and technical articles that analyze and evaluate the latest technologies. They also provide tips and techniques on how best to design prototypes.
"I am extremely happy at being selected for this award. Such honors are highly motivating. One feels enthused to develop many more innovative products in the area of communications," said Prakash, consultant and member of Group Technical Staff, Texas Instruments India.
"We at Texas Instruments are extremely proud of Prakash. The 2000-2001 Innovator of the Year Award from EDN Asia should serve as a motivating factor to bright young designers who want to develop such innovative solutions," said Dr Biswdip Mitra, managing director, Texas Instruments India.
Prakash, 29, joined Texas Instruments in 1993 after completing his BE from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, as an IC design engineer. He already has three patented designs to his credit. EDN Asia chose him as an Innovator for his TLFD600 programmable Analog Front-end solution for CPE modems with support for G.lite and full rate ADSL (expand). He has worked on the next version of the AFE (expand), integrating more functions into the codec.
In June this year, Prakash moved to Wireless LAN. He will be receiving a specially engraved commemorative crystal from EDN Asia besides other prizes.
