BANGALORE: The new version of the People CMM (People Capability Maturity Model), 2.0, was released in Bangalore. The new version was launched in concurrence with its worldwide launch, by principal architect of the PCMM model Dr Bill Curtis.
Some of the new features that have been added in this version address issues that are facing contemporary knowledge-based organizations. It has tighter coupling with other CMM models such as Software-CMM, CMMI (CMM Integration), etc.
The model also introduces team building earlier in the maturity of an organization and highlights the value of this model in the hands of line managers. It emphasizes individual and organizational performance through focus on processes. It elaborates the means of achieving higher maturity levels and introduces basic principles with regard to knowledge-management (KM).
Speaking at the occasion Dr. Curtis said, "The People CMM is not an HR model, it is the CEOs model. It is a conceptual model based on state-of-the-art workforce practices to help organizations, develop the workforce required to execute business strategy, characterize the maturity of workforce capability."
India has the highest number of CMM level-5 companies in the world over 20 out of the total of 35 or so and 60 per cent of all level 4 companies too. Curtis estimates that the first People CMM level 4 company may get assessed from India over the next year.
Till now no company in the world has been assessed beyond level 3 in People CMM. The People CMM deal with areas that have been largely ignored by the software world so far in terms of improving capability of the workforce.
