NEW DELHI: NCR and Novell today announced a global agreement to offer Novell Linux Point of Service on NCR RealPOS retail point-of-sale (POS) terminals.
This agreement makes available a software platform and hardware combination for retailers deploying Linux-based POS solutions. NCR's future plans call for offering Novell Linux Point of Service on NCR easypoint kiosks and NCR fastlane self-checkout.
Novell Linux Point of Service uses enterprise-class Linux to provide security, savings in the form of affordable licensing and simpler hardware requirements, and end-user innovation – helping retailers speed checkout, respond to customer needs and enhance overall store operations.
Greg Egan, vice-president of NCR's Retail Solutions Division, said, “Novell Linux Point of Service is optimized for the retail environment, and we believe it provides NCR's retail industry customers the top-performing Linux platform for their store operations.”
Roger Levy, vice president and general manager of Open Platform Solutions business unit at Novell, said, “NCR's global reputation and respected brand make this an ideal relationship for Novell as we extend our commitment to provide to retailers top solutions on Linux, from back-end systems to sales terminals.”
