BANGALORE: Lenovo’s new 3000 Y series notebooks Y300 and Y500 launched today in India have incorporated a unique feature of biometric face recognition technology.

This face recognition technology takes a digital snapshot of the user, extracts key features of the users face and creates a digital map that becomes the system’s “password”.

The face recognition feature is supported by veriface software. The technology recognizes multiple users and logs onto the windows operating system and other applications without requiring users to remember a single password. In the event of an unauthorized attempt, the notebook photographs the user and stores the image in a log for verification.

The new enhanced entertainment notebook has other unique features added. Apart from biometric face recognition technology, the new laptops features integrated TV tuner card and remote control, slot in ODD (a trayless entry for CDs /DVDs), multimedia shuttle center, inbuilt Dolby home theater and sub woofer, and integrated 1.3 megapixel camera.

The shuttle Center is an audio and video entertainment platform, which helps the user navigate between menus without a mouse.

Ajay Mittal, vice president – Brand and Marketing, Lenovo, said, “The new features are built in the laptop to make it consumer friendly, which can be used without the help of any IT guy. Easy-to-use and feature rich laptops are targeted at the consumers and SOHO segment in India.”

Talking about the marketing strategy Anil Joseph Philip, director- Transaction Business Unit said that the launch of these products follows a business model rather than just product launch. The company follows dual business model- transaction model and marketing model.

“Concentrating on approaching local people, the brand building and marketing is more localized to appeal to local people. They have already received around 400 pre launch booking for new laptops,” says Rahul Agarwal, general manager- Marketing. He further added that Brand building is very important to create awareness among people and they are also in talks with Star group for the same. The awareness level of Lenovo products has increased from 34 per cent in February 2006 to 74 per cent in September 2006.

Since the day of the launch of the product, Lenovo is targeting to reach seven million people in India through the Internet, TV advertisement and print within four-five weeks, said Agarwal

The Lenovo Y300 and Y500 series will be available in India from Thursday.

The Lenovo 3000 Y 300 is priced at Rs 61,990 and the Y500 is priced between 31,990 and Rs 69,990. The products are available through authorized storefronts and business partners.
