BANGALORE: The Silicon Valley of India's beleaguered IT industry can hope for some respite from its traffic congestion and infrastructure woes, though not immediately, with the Karnataka state government giving the nod for the hi-tech city project and development of roads in the IT corridor.
Talking to reporters, minister for revenue and parliamentary affairs MP Prakash said that the cabinet has given the administrative nod to Rs 390 crore hi-tech city project covering 1,070 acres, to be developed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) at the city's IT heartline - Sarjapur Road-Hosur Road.
The hi-tech city would be a mini township, which would provide housing, commercial space, schools, multiplexes and malls- all in one area.
In addition, the state has also given the green signal to develop ten roads in the IT corridor, with public-private partnership, at a cost of Rs 88 crore. Under the partnership agreement, IT firms and the state government would invest Rs 44 crore each, to develop the road in two years.
Despite these heartening developments, the fate of the proposed Devanahailli international airport still hangs in balance. A decision on this long-delayed project would be taken this week after issues are sorted out.
