PUNE: Mastek Ltd- a Mumbai based IT solutions company has opened a 20,000 sq ft facility at the Marisoft IT Park in Pune at an investment of Rs eight crore. Mastek has a presence in Pune since 1989 with over 70 people working for the company. These will now be shifted to the new facility that can house over 220 people. The Mhape facility at Mumbai has a capacity of 1,000 people while the Seepz facility houses 650 people.
Mastek chairman Ashank Desai said that Pune was a natural choice for the company to expand since it already had a presence here. “All the solution architecting will happen here,” he said, adding that the company had added over 100 people in the last quarter. Desai said that it is also looking at the possibility of another development center at Chennai.
“We plan to focus on doing large projects that impact people's lives directly than doing back-end and maintenance work,” Desai said. The company recently executed the London Congestion Charging (LCC) project. This year, it has won a contract through its partnership with BT Syntegra worth $ 60 million for developing the application software for the NHS National Program for IT. The 10-year project envisages the creation of a system that will securely hold medical records of patients across UK. Desai said that they would continue to bid for such large projects.
According to Desai, the company's focus this year would be in the BFSI segment and insurance. With 14 customers in the insurance space, Mastek has now set up a dedicated insurance center. The company has also ventured into BPO with most of the BPO work being done out of Mhape.
