CIOL:Most IT cos to remain closed in Blore

BANGALORE: Many IT companies in Bangalore have decided to play it safe by declaring a holiday on October 4, on account of the state-wide bandh call given by pro-Kannada organizations in Karnataka.

Companies like IBM, Infosys, Intel and Wipro have sent official e-mails to this effect to their staff. While some companies have told their staff in Bangalore to work out of home, others would be working this Saturday to compensate for the loss of work on Wednesday.

However, BPO employees won’t be as lucky in getting an unscheduled break. Some will have to spend longer hours at work or on the premises for safety reasons and also due to the lack of public transport. “While the non-critical projects have been shifted to other locations, we have made arrangements to have our staff on critical projects to come early and also stay over at our dormitories until the bandh is over,” said Vijay Menon, VP and head, marketing, Progeon, Infosys’BPO division.

The ‘Karnataka bandh’ has been called by several Kannada organizations to oppose the Center’s stand on the Belgaum boundary issue with Maharashtra.
