MYSORE: Infosys Technologies Ltd is investing Rs 700 crore by June 2007 to expand its training facilities for employees in its Mysore campus. Speaking to the media, TV Mohandas Pai, Head-HR, education and research, and member of the board, Infosys, said that the company has so far invested Rs 680 crore in the facility. “Totally we would have invested Rs 1,380 into training and education by June 2007.” Today, Infosys announced the arrival of 126 new hires from US universities -the first batch of the Infosys Global Talent Program (GTP). These new hires, the largest group of foreign nationals recruited to work in India to date, begin their six-month, customized education program at Infosys Global Education Center in Mysore. So far, Infosys has recruited these students from 82 global universities. “Last year we started this experiment to hire foreign students. So far we have 126 people, this would likely to go up to 300 by 2007,” said NR Narayana Murthy, Chief Mentor and Chairman of the board, Infosys. He further said that this program would be extended to universities in Europe, Australia and China. “We have mainly targeted US universities so far. Now we would like to go to other universities as well,” said Murthy. The company is also looking at taking in hundred students from Chinese institutions this year. “Last year we invited 100 Chinese students for training. We had spent around a million dollars on this program. Some of them joined us and some did not. Even this year, we would be inviting 100 Chinese students and investing $one million,” said Pai. “We want to people from different nations to join us. So far three per cent of our employee strength consists of foreign nationals. Going forward we want to grow this year on year,” Pai added. Meanwhile, commenting on Karnataka Chief Minister's formal request for advising his government on the knowledge sector industries in the state, Murthy said that he needs to look at his calendar before commenting. “It was a surprise for me. I need to check my schedule before committing and commenting on this. I always believe in under-promise and over-deliver. I need to know whether I can really do justice if I take up any such responsibilities,” he said. The new extended campus will accomodate to train around 35,000 to 40,000 students when it is completed by June 2007.
