NEW DELHI: Tata Teleservices is on an expansion mode. The CDMA telecom player is planning to launch its services in Northeast and Jammu and Kashmir. Currently present in 20 states across the country, the company is eyeing the unexplored market in both the regions. Debashis Sur, chief operating officer, Delhi Circle, Tata Teleservices said that they have already applied for the licenses in both these circles and are waiting for the response from the government. “We are ready with the backend support and are waiting for the approval of the license. We have planned it well in advance on it,” Sur said. He, however, denied revealing the status of the license but said that they were optimistic to get approval from the government. “Both Northeast and J&K are markets with huge opportunities for expansion. We have not yet decided which will be the states in the Northeast where we will start our operations. But we have carried out a survey upon which we will start our services there,” Sur added. As a part of its expansion plans the company is investing Rs. 1000 crore nationally for network rollout across the country. In a move to reduce the congestion and call drops in the CDMA network across the country, Tata Teleservices is planning to increase the Base Transmission Stations (BTS) to 8800 within this financial year. “We are targeting to cover around 4000 towns within this financial year, offering our customers connectivity at every nook and corner of the country. In Delhi and NCR also we are investing Rs. 115 crore in network expansion,” Sur added. Sur said that the BTS sites would be increased to 565 from the current 418, offering customers excellent coverage under the CDMA network. He said that with more customers added in the CDMA network, the company is actively considering to improve the network coverage in the national capital. © CyberMedia News
