BANGALORE: Infosys has announced its plans to make huge investments in Chennai. The announcement was made during Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi's visit to the Infosys campus here on Thursday. Union minister for communications and IT Dayanidhi Maran accompanied his grand-uncle Karunanidhi to the Infosys campus. The company plans to invest Rs 1250 crore over the next three to four years, and hire around 25,000 people during the same period, at its upcoming 125-acre campus at Mahindra City SEZ near Chennai, said TV Mohandas Pai, Infosys board member and head of HR, education and research. The company currently has around 3,500 employees in Chennai and plans to add another 5,000 this year. By December-end, Infosys would have invested Rs 350 crore in the Chennai campus, Pai said. The company is on a major hiring spree and hopes to add on 25,000 more people to its existing strength of 52,710 by the end of this fiscal. Karunanidhi said that the state would announce a new IT policy and encourage IT investment in tier-two and tier-three cities like Coimbatore, Hosur and Madurai. The Tamil Nadu chief minister also the Wipro campus and met Wipro chief Azim H Premji. Wipro, which has 6,000 people on its rolls in Tamil Nadu, is also planning to make a “substantial investment” with special focus on tier-two cities like Coimbatore and Trichy. © CyberMedia News
