How long have you been working at Infosys?
9 Months
What are the aspects of the work culture at Infy that you like?
The atmosphere of growing and gaining knowledge is one of Infosys' strongest attributes. Since the company is relatively young in a fast developing economy, there is a lot of emphasis on producing one's best possible work while fostering a community of collaboration. In an open environment where communication among all levels of employees is encouraged, it's hard not to learn something new everyday.
Can you explain why you decided to take up a work stint at Infosys?
Gaining meaningful professional experience abroad has always been a top priority of mine. Through observing the interchange of forces which shape our world, I understood the enormous transformative power of the multinational corporation. Also, I recognized that the global influence of the business would increase dramatically as I began my career.
In terms of accepting my job in India with Infosys, many of my classmates secured jobs in finance or accounting in New York City, as the undergraduate business program produces great job candidates in these areas. Personally, I am more interested in the development aspect of capitalism and technology in the emerging economies, and considered venturing into microfinance or the non-for-profit world.
Luckily, my current role at Infosys, working for a world-class organization in the developing world, perfectly combines my diverse professional interests. I am generously afforded the ability to gain strategic insight into the corporate world, simultaneously directly experiencing what a growing economy truly entails.
Can you share some of your experiences working here?
Overall, I greatly enjoy working with my colleagues. An environment of mutual learning is strongly encouraged, as most go beyond their duties to share their knowledge.
A recent example of fruitful collaboration took place in a brainstorming session. In this meeting to discuss specific project ideas to support Infosys' latest branding initiative, I made a proposal for an idea I had been working on for awhile. As my pitch was valued by the senior management, I will now spearhead its implementation as a major component of the company-wide marketing directive. This type of creative collaboration is highly motivating, and one of the main reasons I like working for Infosys.
Also, my regular work position of managing a strategic flagship program provides an insightful angle to explore the convergence of commerce and culture. Not only am I at the frontline of the IT industry in mapping Infosys' strategic positioning in the global services industry, but I work with a range of international businesses and professionals in managing how IT affects our lives.
What strikes you about Infosys as a company?
I've noticed that Infosys employees truly revere our founder and Chief Mentor, Narayana Murthy. He's a national figure of admiration, whose entrepreneurial story is held in high esteem not only among fellow employees, but also the rest of the nation. I've also found myself boasting about my employer when I've traveled the country, as the company and Murthy generate a lot of respect. Compared to the US, this kind of loyalty and high company esteem is rare.

I like the fact that there is so much to learn here, and the environment is also very conducive to learning. My colleagues are all very helpful and enable me to contribute effectively to the project.
There really isn't a question if you get to work with the best in the industry.
From the time I was in Mysore undergoing my training to now, it has been a unique experience. Working hard during the training, staying up late, the beautiful campus all contribute to the memories. Bangalore is where I finally came face to face with the industry and formed my primary opinion of what it's like to work in the software field. Besides this, every day is an experience here since you get to learn so much and the process of learning is great.
It's the best.

From how I see it, there are three dimensions of the work culture at Infosys. The physical environment - is quite outstanding, the social and cultural dos give the feeling of belonging and most importantly the work ethic which provides the opportunity to perform and the recognition for performance.
There were a couple of things that convinced me that Infy was the right place for me. It was a place where I could get my hands dirty - the exposure was tremendous in terms of the breadth and depth of work. Unlike most other business solutions company this was a company started by IT professionals and it reflects in all that the company does.
Looking back I am convinced that over the past 7 years my expectations prior to joining Infosys were only reinforced through what I saw, learnt and worked on.
The Company wants to make a difference in the way it does things. Be it in the way any stakeholder is treated - customers, employees, investors, the vendors, the gardeners, the housekeeping staff, the drivers who bring and take employees back - the list is endless. Similarly the effort in the detail that goes into for example the Infosys annual report or even for that matter CSR activities, both as a company and as individuals, stands out clearly.
Eco-friendly IT process not only makes a good environment sense, but also a very good business sense. Join us in this initiative that protects nature and your business.
