HYDERABAD: Here is a website with a difference.
The domain name www.idontwantdowry.com is enough to convey the message: This is not a place for those who demand dowry.
Two months into existence and more than 2000 registered members, this one is getting the hits. But on the other side, certain doubts can be raised. Internet penetration is not towering in the country. Bulk of those who prefer the dowry-less way are either from the lower or middle class and not net savvy.
Hyderabad-based NKG Info Services Private Limited, which has developed the website, seems to have realized this. In the offing is a classified section, again a touch different. NKG would provide an offline solution for those who don't have an e-mail account and are unable to access the Internet regularly. Pay Rs. 100 (for six months) and you can be on your way to a dowry-free marriage.
“We'll create the profile of the person who wishes to opt for classifieds. The fee we are taking is only for processing purpose. We'll post his photographs and contact details like mailing address and telephone number. So even if a person doesn't have an e-mail address, he/she can use services of our website,” says Satya Naresh, director, NKG Info Services Private Limited.
After the completion of six months, one can renew the services free of cost. “Our motto is 'reach the people who can't reach Internet'. This way we can also add our reach,'' feels Naresh.
Currently the website gets about 2000 hits everyday. Members are charged Rs 500 for six month and Rs 1000 to get a year's service.
“We wanted to start a website that benefits the society. The last step on other websites should be the first step on our website,” says Naresh.
Started five years ago, NKG Info Services has also developed literary website srungaram.com and haasyam.com, a portal on Telugu jokes. Initially, NKG used to design websites for various corporates before concentrating on self-developed portals.
