LONDON: IBM has held talks to acquire a stake in Satyam Computer Services, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday.
IBM has approached the company's founder and chairman Ramalinga Raju, the newspaper reported, citing an unnamed executive close to the Hyderabad-based IT company.
Raju controls about 14 percent of Satyam directly or through associates, the FT reported. The FT report, carried on the newspaper's Web site gave no more details of the talks or any possible deal.
An IBM spokesman said the company does not comment on speculation. Satyam could not be reached for comment.
International Business Machines Corp., the world's biggest computer services company, already has a large back-office presence in India. In 2004, it bought Daksh, then India's third-largest back-office services firm.
India's boom in software and technology services has been fueled by investment from international companies seeking skilled English-speaking staff earning a fifth of western wages.
