BANGALORE: Wipro's BPO business, which saw the exit of Raman Roy in June this year, witnessed muted growth in Q2.
“ As expected, our BPO business witnessed flat revenues but significantly improved profitability,” said Azim Premji, chairman, Wipro . He added that though the company expects the revenue growth to be muted in the near term, its wins in transaction processing this quarter was encouraging.
In the quarter, Wipro BPO clocked revenues of Rs 181.70 crore, an increase of 10 percent of the corresponding period last year. The division's PBIT dipped 37 percent to Rs 22.80 crore from 36.10 crore recorded during the September 30, 2004.
Suresh C Senapaty, the company's CFO said that there was a 400 basis points improvement in the operating margin of the BPO business. He added that the company is setting up a center in Eastern Europe-Romania, to expand language capabilities for voice, transaction process and layer one and layer two support for infrastructure management.
Responding to question on whether the company is keen on opening more near shore centers in future Premji said that this would happen “ if there is a justifiable critical mass of customers.”
Affirming the acceptance of the global delivery model, Girish Paranjpe, president, financial solutions, said that the global business environment is open and benign. “In the beginning, it was only the MNCs which were considering offshoring, but now even mid-level companies with revenues of three-four million dollars are willing to embrace the global delivery model.”
