NEW DELHI: Telephony service subscribers appreciated by nearly 3 million during September 2005, as per a compilation done by the Telephone Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
The TRAI report, basing its information on feedback from operators/ associations, concluded that the subscriber base for telephony services had maintained its growth pattern during September 2005.
September 2005 saw 2.9 million subscribers joining in, a figure that almost corresponded with the 3.01 million subscribers registered in August 2005. The average additions for the first half of the current financial year reached 2.46 million per month as against 1.83 million per month during the first half of the previous year.
The mobile segment witnessed the accrual of more than 2.48 million subscribers during September 2005 as compared to 2.74 million in August 2005. During the first half of the current financial year, approximately 14.75 million mobile subscribers have been added, totaling up to 65.05 million subscribers at the end of September 2005.
During the second quarter of the current financial year, 7.67 mobile subscribers were added in comparison to 5.16 million added during the first quarter. In the fixed segment, 0.39 million subscribers were added during September 2005, as compared to 0.27 million in August 2005. With this, the total subscriber base of fixed lines has reached 47.44 million.
The additions of fixed lines subscribers during the first half of the current financial year tallied at approximately 1.92 million as compared to 1.22 million subscribers added during the first half of the previous year.
