NEW DELHI: A call centre worker was arrested for allegedly copying confidential data, a report in a leading English daily said.
Amit Juneja was arrested in Gurgaon near here following a complaint from his employer, the Indian Express said in the report.
The suspect has been sent to judicial custody for two weeks.
According to the complaint by Saffron Global, Juneja was caught red-handed while copying information from his computer to a CD.
The newspaper said Juneja had been booked under a number of sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
A police official was quoted as saying that personal details of individuals had been copied by the accused.
Saffron handles business process outsourcing for a number of unnamed British and American clients. Among the services it offers are telemarketing, call centre operations, and back office processing, its web site said.
The arrest of Juneja follows a report in British tabloid Sun that its reporter had bought the personal details of 1000 Britons for around $7 from a computer expert based here.
The Indian government had taken the incident seriously and has been taking measures against theft of confidential data.
