BANGALORE: Two top IT executives are coming together to give a boost to Indian eco-tourism.
T.G. Ramesh (Tiger Ramesh), former head of BPO at iGate Global Solutions, will launch the Wilderness Resorts Pvt Ltd in mid-August, with additional investment from the iGate CEO and close friend, Phaneesh Murthy.
Sources close to Ramesh said that he feels the Rs 100 crore-resort chain has big opportunities in wildlife and eco-tourism. The resorts will have conference-friendly cottages in five locations in Karnataka.
Confirming the report, T G Ramesh, said he plans to showcase India's eco-tourism to the global market. "Eco-tourism is considered as one of the top three industry segment with an opportunity of over $400-$500 million. We would like to explore this opportunity," he said.
"Being an IT executive, you learn to showcase your company to global clients. I would leverage this experience for global tourists in showcasing eco-tourism," he added.
Ramesh said during the first phase the resort will open in five locations in Karnataka. The chain will then expand to seven other locations in India during the second phase after three years.
