CHENNAI: Tech showpieces-Tidel Park and Biotech Park in Chennai would soon be WiFi enabled. "The state government has cleared the proposal and it is awaiting for final approval and clearance from Tidel governing committee, which will be done shortly," informed Dishnet Wireless Ltd CEO, V Srinivasan.
Dishnet is likely to provide the solution at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh per site connecting all common areas/lounges in the premises to provide wireless access to the network.
Dishnet, after selling its Internet service to Tata-VSNL early this year, is now getting into the wireless business with a huge investment. The company is expected to invest Rs 300 crore in the business to provide WiFi and WiMax solutions, along with the enterprise services. "By next quarter, we will announce more services and provide point-to-multipoint solution for corporate, small & medium businesses and other end-users," Srinivasan said.
Talking about the wireless market in India, he added, "The wireless business is still in its nascent stage and waiting for many government clearances before it could really take-off. However, the industry looks very promising and it will grow in the lines of telecom, with mass acceptance, over the years. Dishnet will be a pioneer in this field like how we revolutionized broadband services in 1999."
Meanwhile, Dishnet has entered into agreement with some of the leading hotels in Chennai for providing wireless connectivity services. "We have already deployed solutions in some hotels and quite upbeat about the trend in the hospitality industry," Srinivasan informed.
