BANGALORE: Government of Karnataka have appointed KM Shivakumar, a 1978-cadre IAS officer, as the new IT, BT and science and technology principal secretary. His appointment comes just days before the commencement of the state's annual IT fair, Bangalore IT.com, which will be held from November 1st to 5th.
52-year old Shivakumar has been the Commissioner for Industrial Development and also the Director for Industries and Commerce, Karnataka in his earlier role. He succeeds Vivek Kulkarni, who opted for VRS to enter the corporate world. According to sources Kulkarni plans to start up a BPO venture soon.
The appointment came amid earlier speculations of EVR Ramana Reddy, ex-IT director and present commissioner for agriculture, taking additional charge as the interim IT Secretary.
