PUNE: The Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) formally handed over the Kaveri (Karnataka Valuation and E-Registration) software, developed for the Karnataka State Department of registration and stamps, to Karnataka minister of revenue HC Srikanthaiah, at a small ceremony in Pune.
C-DAC conducted the study in its capacity as technical solution provider, for the computerization of Karnataka's stamp and registration operations as well as the scanning and archiving of all documents concerning the office of Karnataka's Inspector General of registration (IGR). Code-named Kaveri, the project involves the computerization of 220 sub-registry offices, spread across the state.
KAVERI, essentially a business process re-engineering and eGovernance model with public-private partnership for realizing 100 percent automation of registration process and delivery of registered documents within 30 minutes, has specially incorporated, among others, a module for marriage registration and automatic generation of certificate
Developed and put in operation within a year, KAVERI was awarded a Gold Medal by the Department of Personnel and Training during the national conference held on e-governance, as the best business process reengineering software application.
Lauding the speed with which the software was developed, Srikantaiah said that this software would enable the government to take IT to the doorsteps of the common man. Karnataka IGR D Satyamurthy said that the software would be operational at 220 locations over Karnataka within two weeks. The pilot phase of the software was just completed in August.
The Kaveri software will service 220 sub-registrar offices, across 29 districts in Karnataka and will handle around 10 -12 lakhs registered documents in a year, over an annual revenue outlay of Rs 1,500 crore.
Thanks to Kaveri, the Stamps and Registration Department in Karnataka, has succeeded in cutting down registration time for marriages to just 10 minutes.
