BANGALORE: Personal computer maker Dell Inc. plans to double its headcount in India over the next three years.
Bert Quintana, vice president of Dell International Services said his company would increase the strength of its employees in India to 20,000 in the next three years.
He was speaking on Contact Center Evolution at the Nasscom ITES-BPO Summit 2006 here today.
Dell, of Round Rock, Texas, currently has a 10,000 strong workforce in India.
According to recent reports, Dell is expecting its proposed plant in India to commence operation by end-2006. This plant would help the computer maker to win a share in a booming market by cutting delivery time.
"We would like to have this manufacturing facility up and running within this year," Paul-Henri Ferrand, Dell's vice president for South Asia, told reporters last month.
"Local manufacturing will enable us to have the same supply and delivery chains as we have in many other markets," he added.
The India plant would be Dell's seventh in the world. It already has two plants in China and one in Malaysia.
Dell's announcement today to double its headcount came close of on the heels of IBM chief Samuel J Palmisano's announcement to invest $6 billion in India over the next three years.
