Wipro, Tata and Mastek have already set up offices at Scotland, "Wipro has been operation in Scotland since 1990 but has just set up its office at Scotland few weeks back. Presently we have taken up projects for the Scottish government where we are taking care of their complete IT infrastructure. And now in the coming year we are planning to expand our operations by taking up more projects with the government," said Jayashree Joglekar, VP of Wipro Technologies.
Infact Scotland has the 2nd largest financial services hub in Europe, "Most of the BPOs operating in Scotland are catering to the companies in financial sector. But we are open to other sectors opening up which already have a lot of potential in Scotland like life sciences, healthcare, microelectronics etc. There is a lot of R&D work, which goes on at Scotland in these areas by all our universities and also in other areas like oil and gas. Even creative industries like computer games and multimedia have a high penetration here," said Raymond Prendergast, director-Asia Pacific, SDI.
The Indian representative, Shivendra Singh, country manager from British High Commission sounded encouraging with the fact that the program ‘Global Scot’ which has a total membership of 700 also including Indians has taken off successfully. Under Global Scot, members provide their abilities and expertise for economic development of the society. He also added, "With a population of 5.5 million at Scotland which is not even the half of Mumbai, Indians have tremendous potential."
